Hey all, I had a small mishap on my bandsaw. The head of the adjustment bold sheered off of the blade guide assembly. When I went to extract it, the casting shattered into 3 peices instead of releasing the bolt. So I was looking to replace it but can't find replacement parts anwhere. then I thought I'd upgrade to carters. On their website they list conversion kits for teh 16" and 18" Jet seperately. Retail places only list the 14" and 18" saws. I know the 14" is different than my 16" but not sure about the 18". Does anyone know if the 18" will fit on the 16" saw? Thanks Paul |

Hey Paul, I don't have an answer for you on the Carter's, but you might want to look into Wright Guides. I have used them on one saw and they are great. I think their configuration makes a lot more sense than the Carter's. They are currently being manufactured by: Jasper Parts Inc. 16096 South Wilsonville Road Wilsonville, OR 97070 (503) 236-0905 Unfortunately, no web presence, but apparently great to deal with on the phone. Sorry i don't have an answer for your question. Just throwing out another option. Cheers, -Dave P.S. You can get an idea what they look like HERE |

Paul, Laguna makes retro-fits for other saw brands. Might want to look into the ceramic guides while you have the "opportunity". Dave...I answered your email, but it came back from the server... |

Larry, Thanks for the heads up. I need to have a talk with my ISP. ![]() Do you find that the ceramic guides spark a lot? The one saw I've used that has them spark MUCH more than other guides. The geometry is good though - very similar to the Wright's. Cheers, -Dave |

They do spark...but cold. Scared the heck out of me early on but now it's just part of the deal. Mine are getting worn and they only spark when I change the position of the thrust guide. The sides don't spark because they don't touch. I put Carter on my Mini Max years ago, but would not go backwards after using ceramics. They're tough, too!!! I once forgot to lock the thrust guide and pushed a carbide tipped band backwards into the side guides...sure smelled funny..not unlike gun powder. Some chipping, but no real damage......except to the new Laguna band which was destroyed. Not one of my prouder shop moments. |
